2. Calcined petroleum coke base cold ramming paste

Before 1976, Baotou Aluminum Factory, Northeast Institute of Technology, Zhengzhou Light Research Institute and Wuhan First Metallurgical Research Institute cooperated in the research of calcined petroleum coke base cold pounding paste. The cold pounding paste was first tried out in Baotou Aluminum Plant in 1976 and 1978. After 1979, calcined petroleum coke (true density ≥2.0g/cm) was used in tank overhaul. Base cold ramming paste, binder with coal asphalt and coal tar preparation. The characteristics of calcined petroleum coke base cold ramming paste construction in Baotou Aluminum Factory are as follows: the construction temperature is 20℃; Rammer, groove carbon block and side block do not need to be heated, saving energy, small labor of workers; Save paste; The good working conditions during construction made it popular with the workers. The tank life is 64 months (5.3 years).

3. Calcined anthracite base tamping paste

After 1979, Guizhou aluminum factory began to produce calcined anthracite based tamping paste. The tamping paste made of calcined anthracite and graphite as aggregate is dominant in China. There are also a few tamping paste plants that mix calcined petroleum coke or residue with calcined anthracite as aggregate, which affects tank life.

4. Test indexes of tamping paste performance

There are also expansion and shrinkage indexes for tamping paste performance in foreign countries, but also in China. The tamping paste developed by Northeastern University has a shrinkage rate of 0.4 to 0, which is good news for aluminum mills. Because the damage of aluminum electrolytic cell mainly occurs in the middle seam of tamping paste connection, especially the side seam. The most important factor affecting the early damage of aluminum electrolytic cell is that the shrinkage crack of the batching paste occurs when the batching paste is roasted. After the tank is started, if the shrinkage rate of the roasting-tamping paste is greater than 0.4, liquid aluminum and electrolyte will infiltrate along the shrinkage crack of the roasting-tamping paste and lead to the early damage of the tank. In addition, some foreign aluminum plants measure the thermal properties of the tamping paste (such as thermal conductivity and specific heat, etc.), and Northeastern University is studying the thermal properties of the tamping paste [3].
